Concerns regarding choices

It's been brought to the admins attention via many PM's that there is tension being caused based on who a parent selects for a surgeon. Some members feel it has been implied that they are not doing best for their child if they don't seek the care of specific surgeons. We are sure that these are not intentional implications. We, the admin team, have decided we should publicly mention this in hopes to clear the air and let everyone know where CK stands.

Cranio Kids does not recommend, endorse, nor condone any physician. There is no single surgeon we label as "the best". To label a surgeon as the best would be subjective and impossible to factually verify.

We do, however, encourage you to research your area surgeons, and seek opinions from other parents who may have used him or her, rather than choose a surgeon based solely on their reputation. There are skilled and talented surgeons all over the world, and one may be near you. Kaci King (kking) is our mentors program director, and she may be able to help pair you with another parent close to your area, or who has used a doctor you are researching.

Don't be afraid to "interview" surgeons. Their job is to ensure your child's care and safety, and they should be willing to share with you how they plan on doing that. Jennifer has put together a great list of questions to ask upon meeting a doctor for the first time. To see the list, click here.

A families choice in surgeon can be an extremely difficult and personal decision. Some families may choose to travel, some families may stay close to home, some may not have a choice either way. It's a decision a parent has to make based on what they are comfortable with. We're all here with the common goal of supporting each other, and we can show that support by respecting each other's decisions.

If you have any questions or concerns about this announcement, please PM an admin or post in "The Information Room". Please note, out of privacy and respect, we will not answer questions regarding specific information we received in the PM's from members.
